July 11, 2007

Today I'll be attending a Community Council meeting to discuss plans to bring Utopia to the masses. No, not here in West Jordan (though I'm still talking to people about it). I'm visiting White City today (they are just south of Sandy). It should be interesting to hear the arguments, pro and con. I'll update the blog if anything of interest. You never know. Basically I'm there to lend my support for expanding Utopia (now that the legislation has expired).

I never would have done something like this a year ago. It's amazing how poor customer service can get someone really motivated. Speaking of which, a recent post from autoguy mentioned Comcast is working with customers when bandwidth issues arise.

Comcast has issued an official response claiming they will try and work with their customers regarding this very issue. Not so in my case, regardless of the extensive effort I made to work with them. They threatened me with a 12 month suspension of services.

If anyone has seen such a response could you please email the link to me? I'd like to examine whether it's an improvement or just CYA. Also, I strongly recommend that anyone receiving "The Call" begin moving email's and your address book over to something like gmail. So far people are usually terminated regardless of what they do within 30 days. At least that's what I've gathered in speaking with former Comcast HSI customers.

I recently came across freeutopia.org. Very well kept and up to date site discussing Utopia, Internet and other items along that route. Might be something of interest to check out.

One more note. There are only 4 more days left to comment to the FCC regarding Net Neutrality. Take a few minutes and let them know your thoughts. Also check out this cool YouTube video about the internet and Net Neutrality.

Good job Frank. I recently was contacted by another guy that knows several people that have Comcast and are now moving to other services because of poor customer satisfaction.

Hey Frank. Just got caught up on your blog posts and I really support what you're doing here. Actually, I just got a call from Comcast(Central NJ) this morning about my bandwidth usage. Apparently, I'm using approximately 1/10 of the bandwidth of 13 million subscribers. Then, if I did not stop my current usage habits, they would issue a 12 month suspension.

I appreciate the support. After looking around the Internet with my dial up modem in February, I couldn't find anyone really making any noise cept for C-level tech and a few other's here and there. No blogs or places to find information about what Comcast is doing. I figured silence would only encourage Comcast to keep abusing it's Customers (the people who pay Mr. Roberts salary).

Move everything you care about as fast as you can to another service such as Google. They may not have a perfect track record (they are human), they won't pull crap like this.

You will be disconnected within 30 days. I'm sorry to say it's unlikely anything you do at this point will make a difference. They have you selected for termination. I'm aware of only one exception of Comcast restoring service after such as call. And that was after a call to the PUC threatening Comcast for terminating the ladies 911 service (she had triple play)

If I hear of anything that may be of interest to people I'll post it here. Who knows. Perhaps even information about a class action lawsuit should that ever happen.

For now I'm heavily focusing on reducing their Monopoly.

I hope you have alternatives in your area (Verizon FioS or DSL). Oh and if they by some stroke of fate decide NOT to terminate you let us know. So far after speaking with over 100 people I've found only the one.

Good Luck!
